A mysterious objet has popped up in our west gallery’s art piece w-8 space………

From South Korea , Sooyoung, a BA major in Textile Design from Konkuk University where she also holds a teaching position, here presents large monochrome 3D works featuring adapted aerial road and city photography upon which she constructs open-ended canvas cubes…..viewed from above the cubes mimic the skyline and reach towards you……..
A chaotic chorus of beeps, whistles, hoots and digital tones greet the ears of visitors to this fascinating ,”hands on” conceptual interactive multimedia design exhibition……..Robotic heads with eyes that swivel as they track you appear to make realistic eye contact …….
Disembodied hands with digitally controlled servos capable of a full range of movement flex fingers at passers-by!
The majority of these innovative inventions have specific functions and tasks such as this LED colour graduation room humidifier which projects a visually soothing ambiance as well as countering the dehydrating effects of air-conditioning units and old style paraffin room heaters which can still be found in many a Japanese domicile………
although in saying that ,some of these gizmos seem to serve no other purpose than to serve as intriguing eye-candy! As seen here with this wonderful arachnoid-like device which pumps perfectly controlled jets of air form its spindly pipe legs to “magically” suspend a circular group of ping-pong balls in midair……….visitors are encourage to grab their balls and then enjoy returning them to the airstreams ………( i’ve done the same using a turbo hairdryer but it took many attempts, yeah, it’s so cool! and i could have played with it all afternoon! I’m simple like that.)
seen above a musical device which pops up coloured columns each emitting differing synth-tones when you tap any of the pads, the touch sensitive pads enable you to play a musical “simon says” ,faithfully following the order you choose……great, there is also a film loop of 3 guys performing in concert!
I had lots of discordant and totally tuneless enjoyment on this!
Have fun trying to guess what some of the exhibited devices do!
Many of the designers & inventors are on hand at the gallery and are more than happy to demonstrate and explain the technical aspects incorporated welcome you to test them out!
