Jennifer, Jennifer, and Jacklyn

Jennifer, Jennifer, and Jacklyn

So coming back from the East Gallery I ran into to these three ladies looking at the art squares located in the West gallery.  So I chatted them up for a bit and found out they’re all from Australia.  It was their first time visiting the gallery and said they thought the space was quite cool and unique.  Thanks for visiting girls, enjoy Japan!

The 2nd Time Around

The 2nd Time Around

So far...

So far...

...

...

I don’t know if I mentioned this before but art happens anywhere and everywhere here at the gallery.  Today  a French artist named Thibaud stopped by to grace one of the little bit of white walls we have left, and if you saw the post before you knew what was going to happen.

So what is your inspiration for the piece you are about to make?
It’s called Alizilla. A cross between Alice and Wonderland and Godzilla.

Where did that come from?
Well Alice and Wonderland idea came from some of the outfits and fashion I’ve seen here…the short skirts and stockings. Godzilla? We’re in Japan! The city is like a monster, its huge!

Ahh, I get it now. So how did you find the Design Festa Gallery?
Actually I was in an elevator and I saw an ad.  I asked around to find out where it was.

Really! So what do you think of it so far?
It’s really cool, I like the artists communication here.  I like all the street art and how its always changing.  It kind of reminds of Berlin, I like place like here.

So how long have you been in Tokyo?
One week.

Wow, so when are you leaving?
Tomorrow.

But wait, its kind of late to be starting a work of this size…
Well, yeah I have about 4hours and if I don’t finish I’ll be back tomorrow before I leave.

What kind of art work do you create?
I do graffiti but I’m getting into pop surrealism. It comes out of Los Angeles.  Ever heard of it?

Nope, but I will definitely check it out.
Yes, you must! It is like seeing things in comic form.

Ahh, I see. How long does it take you finish your works?
It depends on what I’m painting on. I like to paint on walls, because I like to create bigger works. But canvases don’t take too long.

So who inspires you?
Well I get inspired by mangas so Hayao Miyazaki and Taiyo Matsumoto and like I mentioned earlier pop surealism.

That’s cool. Well thanks for taking the time out.
No thank you.
